Urged on by their legions of fans, Myanmar came from 0-1 down to triumph 5-1 over the Philippines at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Sunday evening.
Cheers of “Myanmar! Hey!” rang continuously as the battle on the pitch ensued. Inspired by the support, Myanmar got off to a good start but failed to capitalise on their chances.

Their wastefulness was punished in the 16th minute, when Philippines captain Shirmar Felongco won possession on the halfway line and raced forward to score the opener.

Undeterred, the Myanmar fans chanted even louder and were rewarded just five minutes later when captain Nay Lin Tun’s free kick took a wicked deflection off the wall to leave goalkeeper Nathanael Ace Villanueva wrong-footed.

Smelling blood, Myanmar pressed forward; every touch and pass greeted by vociferous cheers. Indeed, it was only valiant, desperate defending, that ensured that the Philippines held on till half time.

“We made some mistakes in the first half, playing a long ball game,” Myanmar coach Kyi Lwin later admitted. “In the second half, we changed to a short passing game.”

It took just a minute for the change to reap dividends, with Nay Lin Tun threading a pass for Shine Thura to stab home.

This opened the floodgates, with Ye Win Aung, Si Thu Aung and Kyaw Zin Lwin piling on the misery for the inexperienced Filipinos and leaving Myanmar on the brink of a place in the semi-finals.

“There’s nothing much to say,” Philippines coach Marlon Maro said. “We played well in the first half – the players played according to plan – but we just couldn’t keep up with the speed of the Myanmar players.”

Viet Nam vs timors lestte

Vietnam treated their fans with yetanother 90 minutes of attacking football at the 28th Southeast Asian Games football tournament with 4-0 win over Timor-Leste.
At half time, Vietnam led 1-0 with the only goal from Tran Phi Son’s header in the 10th minute. Timor-Leste spent most of their time defending against the Vietnamese who clocked 11 attempts on goals in the first half. Timor-Leste’s only attempt came in the 8th minute when Jairo Neto shot over the bar in a counter attack.
The scoring prowess by Vietnam is revealed in the second half, a trend that was seen in their past 3 games, with more goals scored in the second half than in the first.

In the 49th minute, Mac Hong Quan headed home in similar fashion to fellow striker Tran Phi Son.

Que Ngoc Hai, the captain who assisted both earlier goals, scored the third for Vietnam with a cross shot in the 56th minute.
4 minutes later, Vo Huy Toan put in the final touch for the fourth goal after a strike by substitute Le Thanh Binh was parried by Timor-Leste’s goalkeeper Ramos Maxanches.

Despite their loss, Timor-Leste Coach Fabio Da Silva is proud of his players. “They never give up,” said Da Silva.

“They (Timor-Leste) played attacking football,” remarked Toshiya Miura, Coach of Vietnam, who attributed the high score to the less defensive opponent as compared to Laos, whom they won 1-0.

With the fourth victory, Vietnam reclaimed the top spot at Group B from Thailand, and at the same time secured a slot at the semi-finals. Their last fixture in Group B is the clash against Thailand in the fight for the first position in Group B’s tables on Wednesday, June 10.
Bishan Stadium will stage the match between Brunei and Malaysia on Monday, June 8, one day before Timor-Leste takes on Laos.

Singapore’s Women’s Table Tennis Team was off at a rough start in the semifinal as Malaysia’s Ng Sock Khim proved to be no easy opponent for Yu Mengyu. Ng threw down the gauntlet early in the match by winning the first game 13-11. Yu, keeping up with the pace, rose up to the task by winning the next two games. Ng took the fourth after an intense battle which ended 12-10, but it was Yu who emerged victorious by clinching the fifth game 11-5. The subsequent Malaysian opponents were less of a threat as Feng Tianwei and Isabelle Li eased to victories against Lee Rou You and Angeline Tang, taking Singapore to the finals with a perfect score of 3-0.

Over at the next court, the other semifinal saw Thailand up against Vietnam for the second spot in the finals. First up for the Vietnam team was Nguyen Thi Nga who managed to snag the first game with a score of 11-8. Komwong Nanthana, with years of experience under her belt, made a comeback and won the following three games, giving the win of the first match to Thailand. It was up to Vietnam’s Mai Hoang My Trang to level the score in the second set, and she did not disappoint by beating Thailand’s Tamolwan Khetkhuan in straight games. However, Mai’s efforts proved in vain as Thailand’s Orawan Paranang and Nanthana Komwong won the next two sets, handing Thailand the win and the chance to compete for the gold medal.

The first Men’s Team semifinal saw Singapore’s Gao Ning begin with a bang as he made quick work against Maulana Gilang of Indonesia, while Li Hu also dispatched his opponent Ficky Supit Santoso with a 3-0 thrashing in the second set. Clarence Chew sealed his victory over Akhmad Dahlan Haruri with a score of 3-1, securing Singapore’s spot in the finals.
The next semifinal matchup pitted Vietnam against Malaysia, where Vietnam’s Tran Tuan Quynh started off strong with a perfect 3-0 against Leong Chee Feng. In the second set, Muhd Shakirin Ibrahim countered hard against Quang Linh Dinh and closed the match at 3-0. A stunning battle ensued in the next set between Nguyen Anh Tu and Muhamad A. H. Muhamad R, where Ngyuen took the set in four games, winning 7-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-6. Sending in their next players, Tran Tuan Quynh and Muhd Shakirin Ibrahim went on the court once more and gave their all to clinch a spot in the final. Despite Ibrahim’s best efforts, Tran sealed the match with the score of 3-1, where they would meet Singapore later in the evening.

Vietnamese gymnasts clinch all-around titles

Vietnam cleaned up the two biggest individual awards in artistic gymnastics at the SEA Games on Monday, winning the men's and women's all-around titles.
Dinh Phuong Thanh won the gold medal for men with a score of 86.150 on the six apparatus. His countryman Pham Phuoc Hung won the silver and Singapore's Gabriel Gan took the bronze.
Vietnam's Phan Thi Ha Thanh won the women's individual all-around final with a score of 53.650, on four apparatus. Malaysia's Farah Ann Abdul Hadi came second with Singapore's Nadine Nathan third.
Phan clinched her sixth SEA Games gold medal in her career and her second in the all-around category but the wait to defend her title was much longer than she ever expected because gymnastics has not always been on the 2013 SEA Games schedule.
Phan actually had won her first SEA Games gold medal in 2007, on the vault, as a 15-year-old, but had to wait another four years before her next appearance.

When gymnastics was re-included in 2011, Phan was already an international star after finishing third in the vault at the world championships in Tokyo.
At the SEA Games, she showed why she is the region's best female gymnast, winning three gold medals, in all-around,   vault and floor exercise.A year later, she won her first Asian title in the vault, denying a Chinese sweep of the women's gold medals at the Asian championships.
Phan was twice named Vietnam's athlete of the year and has set her sights on another big haul at Singapore's Bishan Sports Hall.
She had been hoping for six medals, but that was revised to five after Vietnam finished fourth in the team event. After winning the gold in the all-around she still has the four individual apparatus to go and has strong claims in each.
She won a silver medal in balance beam and a bronze in vault at last year's Asian Games. Earlier this year, she won gold in the beam and silver in the vault at the Doha round of the World Challenge Cup.
