Singapore Sports Hub: The Great Singapore Welcome
After 22 years, the Sea Games returns to Singapore in 2015! From 5th-16th June, the city-state will host the 28th Sea Games as the region’s athletes compete in 402 events across 36 sports.
Much has changed since Singapore last hosted the Games in 1993. Numerous sporting records have been broken and the icon of local sports has also changed hands from the former National Stadium to the Singapore Sports Hub.
One of the Games’ firsts will be the venue of the opening and closing ceremonies. The new National Stadium, also the world’s largest dome structure, has a capacity of 55,000 and will host both ceremonies as well as most competitions. Spectators and athletes will be able to experience for themselves world-class facilities like the aquatics centre, water sports centre etc.
Themed ‘Celebrate The Extraordinary’, the Games aims to look beyond competing and winning and focuses on connecting people and communities to their dreams. The Games is also part of the SG50 celebrations to celebrate Singapore’s golden jubilee.
The 28th Sea Games is not to be missed, so hurry and mark your calendars now!
We welcome any suggestion or feedback from the general public on the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Please contact our communications team at SEAG15_OCC@defence.gov.sg
